Past champions share their Masters memories – Golf
ESPN – Apr 1, 2008
– You get the sense that the topic is never out of bounds. Once a Masters champion, always a Masters champion. So even if they are at another place and time, pursuing other goals, and worrying about other things in golf, business and life, past winners typically welcome a conversation about the Masters. Nine former Masters champions were in the field at the Champions Tour’s Ginn Championship at Hammock Beach, including tournament winner.

Should PGA Tour winners reach the Masters? – Golf
ESPN – Apr 1, 2008
“We all thought it appropriate we bring it back,” Payne said of the rule that had been in place until 1999. “We missed the excitement of the winner of a PGA Tour event immediately qualifying for the Masters. This does not include any opposite field events (those played against majors or WGCs) or Fall Finish events. With only two tourneys left for players to qualify under this rule, we asked our experts whether it was a good idea in this week’s edition of Fact or Fiction.

He does, though, feel he makes animportant contribution around the world in promoting golf. Three Asian players ranked below Montgomerie — India’s.
Norco golf course’s youth programs dropped, building in doubt
Press-Enterprise – Apr 1, 2008
An answer may come today, when the Norco City Council holds a hearing on proposed changes to the golf course's permit. But a decision on the issue may not heal old wounds some residents say the golf course issue has reopened. The controversy has centered on golf and tutoring programs offered by the Get a Grip Foundation, a nonprofit group run by Hidden Valley Golf Club operator Jay Miller. About 400 schoolchildren get free golf lessons and homework help four days a week through one program, and another program bused in 24 youths from two detention centers for golf, dinner and life-skills lessons, but Miller said he canceled that program at the end of March.

Golf Notebook: Riverside mayor will visit Van Buren Golf Center
Press-Enterprise – Apr 1, 2008
Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge plans to spend some time with the junior golfers at the facility Saturday morning, when the center showcases the training it gives the area’s youngsters. "We’ve gotten dozens of accolades from the mayor and city council, but he’s never been there to really see what’s going on and why we have one of the top junior golf facilities in the country," said Mike Hancock, who’s headed the center and its affordable junior program for 29 years. Hancock said anyone interested is welcome to come down and spend the morning with the group. Hancock led 11 of his players back to the Santa Catalina Island Junior Golf Championship last weekend. The trip has become a tradition for the young Van Buren golfers, who this year returned with a trio of third-place prizes.
