So do the towering pines and a couple of impressive ponds, too. The home of the Masters is known more for Amen Corner and its old manor clubhouse, but the adjacent Par 3 Course is every bit as big a part of the place. Now it is set to get its due when the annual Par 3 Contest is shown on live television Wednesday for the first time. The world will get to see what participants in the Masters and visitors to Augusta National have known for years.

— Hang around long enough under the big oak tree that shades the clubhouse lawn and chances are good you’ll hear old-timers reminiscing about the days when every blade of grass was mowed, everyone except Gary Player and Arnold Palmer had a belly, and lighting up Augusta National meant pulling out a carton of Winstons, not shooting a low score. As hard as it might be to imagine now, there apparently was a time when players shaped their shots instead of their abs, and the idea of performance enhancement was cutting back the number of whiskey sours the night before. Bulging muscles under a green jacket? About as much chance of finding that as a black golfer on the first tee. Phil Mickelson would have fit in with the old school crowd.

Except maybe playing on her home turf. She’s the obvious favorite in the Corona Championship at Tres Marias in the mountains of western Mexico. Except Ochoa always seems to struggle at home. Last month in the MasterCard Classic outside Mexico City, Ochoa opened with a 4-over 76 — her worst score in nearly a year — and ended up tying for eighth. Ochoa lost last year’s Corona Championship by two strokes to Italy’s Silvia Cavalleri.
[...] Storm clouds gather at Corona as beer sales fizzleCharleston Post Courier – Apr 6, 2008?I wanted to get a beer that everybody in my family likes, and Corona is definitely one of those,? he adds. But ?it came down to pricing,? and Pacifico is ?something different. ?Hammond says Corona sales may be cooling because consumers like him ?are trying different things. John Greening, a professor of marketing communications at Northwestern University who used to advise Anheuser-Busch on advertising strategies, says Corona faces the risk of becoming ?your big brother?s beer? if Crown Imports doesn?t come up with new marketing themes. ?They have stayed with the whole resort and relaxation theme,? he says, ?but today it?s kind of yesterday?s news. ?Nick Lake, a Nielsen vice president who tracks the beer industry, contends the Corona brand remains sturdy.Related: … source for Golf PGA Tournament stats, scores, standings,… [...]
[...] Should the gentlemen of black empowerment now step aside?Business Report – Jan 23, 2005This deal was the first of the big four banks. It was, however, preceded by the Investec deal announced in 2003. On April 1 2004, the Sanlam deal with the Patrice Motsepe’s Ubuntu-Botho consortium was approved by the shareholders, ensuring that 8 percent of Sanlam’s ordinary shares were held by the masses. In the third quarter, Standard Bank announced its BEE deal with Saki Macozoma’s Safika, Cyril Ramaphosa’s Shanduka and staff. Once more, debates around the enrichment of a few black individuals erupted, especially where there was no risk assumed by those individuals. Brait also announced its deal around the third quarter. To close off the year, FirstRand unveiled its deal with Kagiso Trust, the Mineworkers’ Investment Trust and the Women’s Development Bank Trust in the last quarter of 2004.Related: Times have changed in golf, as evidenced by the bulging biceps of… [...]
