COM OPEN, Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course), Scottsdale, Arizona – The PGA Tour returns to Arizona for the first time since February. Former Masters champion Mike Weir got up and down from a greenside bunker on the 72nd hole last year to secure a one-stroke win over Mark Hensby. Weir was one of just four players to post all four rounds in the 60s for the week. The win was Weir's first since the 2004 Nissan Open. The Canadian was aided by Sean O'Hair's disastrous double-bogey.

Alameda proposes keeping golf workers
San Jose Mercury News, USA
Recreation and Parks Director Dale Lillard and Alan Elnick, business representative for the union representing the workers, confirmed to the Golf Commission last week that a deal to keep the city’s maintenance workers is being negotiated. Most of the companies submitting proposals for the interim manager job said they would bring in their own maintenance workers to save money. If approved by the city and any contractor the City Council chooses to run the course in the short term, the deal would allow the contractor to replace unionized city maintenance workers with their own staff only as they quit or retire. Lillard said city staff had asked the four finalists for the interim job — Kemper Sports, Empire Golf, Bellows Golf Management and a group led by the complex’s assistant golf professional, Mike Robason — to submit revised proposals that included working with the course’s existing maintenance crew by the end of the day last Friday.
