Recreational golfers don’t need to be as fit as Woods or Sorenstam but being in better physical condition can make the game easier short term and long term. “It is easier to play golf when in better shape because it helps maintain balance in the golf swing as well as helps a golfer’s endurance in the amount of holes one can play each week” said Aurora Kirchner-McClain golf instructor at the Kingwood Golf Advantage School. There are many golf advantages in being of sound body. “There is no question in my mind that the golf swing motion can be more easily performed consistently if one is in shape” said Deb Vangellow director of instruction at Sweetwater Country Club.

Geoff gilvy went wire-to-wire to win the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship this past weekend. He opened the day Sunday with a six-stroke lead and after nine holes of play his lead slipped to just one stroke over Anthony Kim. gilvy proceeded to light up the back nine starting with a 20-foot eagle putt on #10 and followed by a barrage of birdies. It was stellar golf.
